Hello, Veneer World!

My name is Jenna Noseda and I am a veneer girl. Just five years ago, if you had asked me what "veneer" was, I wouldn't have been able to tell you. When I tell people what I do for a living, photograph and work with veneer, they think I mean dental veneer, or just give me this blank stare and ask, "What's that?" Trust me, everyone, I was right there with you.

Let me give you a little bit of information on what I do. The veneer industry has been around for a LONG time. In fact, our company was incorporated back in 1977 by Laurie Dooge, although it was around for even before that. In this digital age, the big shots here at Dooge decided they needed to have a photography system to showcase each flitch veneer, a very thinly sliced log used as a covering of another surface, often used in architecture, woodworking, and furniture production. It was a learning process from the beginning, but with an EXPERT photographer on staff (that's my shameless plug, thank you!), who also runs the website, works on social media, and plays go-fer when necessary, I'm happy to say that we've got a great system in place.

But back when I started at Dooge Veneers, a senior in college majoring in photography, I never would have guessed that my life would be surrounded by wood, day in and day out. If I had guessed, I probably would have passed and taken another route! But hey, what can I say? The veneer industry has a lot more to offer than I ever expected.

And just like me, not a lot of people know what amazing things can be done with wood veneer. But there are so many varieties of ways that it can be used. Veneer is practical, it's art, it's good for the environment, it's beautiful, it's got a lot of potential. It's wood, but so much more than that.

So with this blog, myself and the rest of the crew here at Dooge Veneers (that's pronounced DOH-gee for everyone out there who hasn't heard of us... you're welcome!) are hoping to help educate and entertain everyone with all the information you could possibly stand about the veneer industry. Sure, I'll plug our business a little along the way, but the goal is to present some interesting perspectives, and show some of the awesome things that wood has to offer the world!

But until my mission to educate the world on the veneer industry is complete, though, I'll probably still respond to the question of "What do you do for a living?" with "I take pictures of wood." ;-) Stay tuned!
